COVID-19 Vaccination

Ryan is fully vaccinated (and boosted) against COVID-19.

Skills

Active Directory
Ryan has extensive experience setting up on-premises Windows domain controllers and Azure Active Directory, including users, computers, distribution groups, security groups, and group policy. His expertise also extends to directory schemes, replication, and domain DNS.
Proficiency: 4/5

Computer Networking
Interconnecting devices both wired and wirelessly is a critical part of computing. Understanding the fundamentals of networking occurs by intimately knowing every layer of the OSI model. Ryan has experience sourcing hardware, pulling and terminating cable, configuring switches and routers, reading packet captures, writing applications, configuring VPN tunnels, optimizing networks for VoIP, and troubleshooting multicast streams are all key aspects of Ryan’s computer network experiences.
Proficiency: 4/5

Conflict Management

Ryan’s formal training in conflict management began in middle school with training as a student peer mediator. Conflict is unavoidable and, frankly, necessary sometimes in business. The difference in ideas drives innovation; even so, one must keep their eyes and ears open to potential conflict. It’s essential to remain aware of personal emotions but not let them dictate a decision or response. Allow all parties to have their say, identify your options, and agree on a way forward. Lastly, evaluate the situation and seek ways to prevent conflict when you can.
Proficiency: 5/5

Customer Service
Customer service is the bedrock of a small business. As an entrepreneur, Ryan has extensive customer service experience. An entrepreneur must serve both business leaders and members of the public. Through his experience as a SOC Analyst, Ryan has experience answering phone calls and emails from clients during every shift. Likewise, being a radio announcer offered Ryan daily opportunities to interact with the general public.
Proficiency: 5/5

Cybersecurity Awareness Training
Created customized cybersecurity training for enterprise employees. Written scripts for video and graphic presentations, then prepared the deliverable creative elements for the enterprise to distribute to employees. As a cybersecurity professional, a plentiful amount of cybersecurity awareness training has also been consumed, including modules from KnowBe4.
Proficiency: 5/5

Desktop Support
Windows 10, Windows 11, and macOS. Countless hours have been spent on the phone, texting, chatting, and emailing with end-users helping them navigate their computer issues. Splashtop SOS and Microsoft’s Quick Assist are lifesavers when assisting a remote user.
Proficiency: 5/5

Disaster Recovery
Starting with a fire inside a radio station’s technical operations center in April 2006, nothing teaches incident response and disaster recovery like trial by fire. Literal fire. Learning how to prepare and recover from malware, sabotage, power outages, equipment failures, pandemics, and acts of God has become a passion. From table-top tests to writing business continuity plans, disaster recovery planning is more fun than working through an actual disaster.
Proficiency: 4/5

Mentoring
The decision and desire to mentor an individual are rooted in empathy and love for one’s neighbor. The mentor must genuinely care for the mentee; otherwise, the mentee likely won’t receive the mentor’s advice and suggestions as truly constructive feedback. Ryan understands that a mentorship relationship must be built upon mutual respect, trust, confidentiality, and mutual respect. It’s necessary for a mentor to devote the necessary time to help the mentee grow as a person and become the best version of themselves.
Proficiency: 5/5

Microsoft 365 Suite
Daily, in-depth usage of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, Teams, OneNote, and Skype. Also have used Microsoft Access and Publisher on past projects.
Proficiency: 5/5

Network Administration
Ryan has designed and maintained complex data networks with managed switches, routers, and firewalls from Cisco, Netgear, Mikrotik, Ubiquiti, Dell EMC, Barracuda, Juniper, WatchGuard, Juniper, pfsense, and DD-WRT. Configured and used network storage devices from Synology, TrueNAS, and Buffalo for SMB, AFP, NFS, FTP, SFTP, and iSCSI.
Proficiency: 4/5

Piano Performance
Despite not reading sheet music, Ryan’s decades of piano playing by ear has yielded immense musical talent. Called a prodigy by some, most people would never recognize Ryan’s lack of classical training. Music theory remains a fascination and an academic pursuit for him.
Proficiency: 4/5

Weather Forecasting
As a degreed meteorologist, Ryan possesses the fundamental skill of synthesizing multiple sources including climatology, current weather conditions, local geography, and forecast model data into a cohesive and relevant weather forecast. Ryan has experience delivering the content written in a report, printed in a newspaper, delivered aurally, or the forecast information may be presented in front of a chromakey wall in a television studio.
